Chapter Six

Audrey

"Eli, this place is amazing," I whisper, staring at his restaurant. The parking lot is packed full of cars. There is a line of people waiting outside the building. Like the winery next door, it's built from stone, with a red steeple roof. It looks like something you'd find in a village in Italy instead of in the middle of California. It's really pretty and the view of the mountains and vineyards is incredible.

"Thank you," he says, lifting my hand to his lips to kiss my knuckles.

"I'm so proud of you."

He grins at me like a little boy, his blue eyes lighting up. His tie matches his eyes almost perfectly. He skipped wearing a suit jacket and his sleeves are rolled up his forearms, showing off his tattoos and golden skin. The expensive shirt stretches over his muscles, hinting at the incredible body beneath. He looks hot as hell.

As we approach the restaurant, a few people greet him. Part of me wants to hide behind him when their attention drifts in my direction, but I don't. I stand proudly at his side as he introduces me as his girl. My hair is down in soft waves. I'm in a pretty blue dress I've never had a reason to wear. It hugs my curves, flattering my full-figure. My makeup is smoky. I feel pretty, confident. Like I belong at his side.

A few of the women give me dirty looks, but I pretend not to see them as Eli leads me through the throng and then inside the restaurant, skipping the line. I guess you're allowed to do that when you own the place.

I stop walking as soon as we step over the threshold, gaping around me. I've never been here before because eating out is a luxury when you're on a budget and going to a fancy restaurant by myself seemed kind of silly, but maybe I should have splurged. This place would have been worth the expense.

The entire back wall is glass, allowing diners to look out at the mountains and vineyards while they eat. Giant wine casks line one wall. The ceilings are vaulted with fancy beams crisscrossing the open space. Glass chandeliers hang over the wooden tables, which are all packed with people.

"Good evening, Mr. Goodson," a woman says, appearing at the hostess booth. She glances at me and smiles. "Good evening, Ms. Chandler."

"Hi," I mumble, blushing and wondering how she knows my name.

"Your table is waiting," she says to Eli.

"Thank you, Madison."

Eli puts his hand on my lower back to guide me through the restaurant.

"You look beautiful in your dress, baby doll," he murmurs, tipping his head toward mine so I can hear him over the chatter in the restaurant. "I'm really looking forward to getting you out of it tonight."

"Eli," I whisper, flushing bright red. I cast a furtive glance at Madison, but I don't think she heard him, thank God. Sex is brand new to me. I don't want everyone to know we're having a lot of it.
